Dorene Sukup joined Beczak as an educator in 2008, and is responsible for developing and teaching hands-on programs both off-site and at Beczak. She also conducts Hudson River themed birthday parties and family programs on the weekends. Dorene began her studies at Long Island’s Southampton College and completed her degree in marine biology at Florida Institute of Technology.
During her studies, she worked as a lab assistant and maintained the marine station animals and tanks. She was very fortunate to have the opportunity to take an overseas research class in Fiji and the Solomon Islands where she explored the tropical waters and further confirmed her passion for marine biology. During her time in Florida, she became an office manager for a local fence company, and worked as a counselor at a Marine Biology Summer Camp. Dorene is most fascinated by tropical ecology and biology as well as getting a closer look at invertebrates.
As a native of Putnam Valley, Dorene always loved the outdoors and grew up with a great appreciation for the Hudson River. Upon completion of college, she moved to Yonkers in 2007 and was eager to get her feet wet at Beczak. Dorene is a certified lifeguard and scuba diver. On her free time she enjoys photography, hiking, and her dog Girlie.
